Return/Enter key not working on Mac

Help. I’m a beginner learning Python. I am using Macbook Pro and my return/enter key isn’t working as intended when trying to switch from Navigating to Editing mode. Doing so instead adds a new line. I’ve tried so many things including using a different browser, restarting my laptop, restoring my keyboard to its default settings etc… I don’t see the option to edit shortcut keys either under the Help tab. Anyone else has experienced this and found a solution? I’ve spent way too much time trying to figure out what’s wrong.

I can confirm, the same happens to me on latest JupyterLab v4.2.4 and latest MacOS Sonoma v14.6.

It happens randomly - i.e. from beginning it works and then, (after some completely random time like 30 minutes) it stops working = pressing Enter does nothing - no newline. It looks to common user like Enter presses are ignored.

What helps is to close the notebook and reopen it again. Then Enter starts working again normally. It is pretty annoying and happens like 2-3 times per day.

I have reported it here as a bug:
