Keyboard usage: Creating code cell and typing it

Hi, JupyterLab newbie here.

I like using the computer only with the keyboard, without touching the mouse. I see that JupyterLab does have keyboard shortcuts. When I press B it creates a new code cell. What I don’t understand though is how to type code in that code cell. If I start typing after the cell is created, JupyterLab ignores my typing. I could use the mouse to click the code cell and start typing, but I want to stick with the keyboard. Is this possible?

Thanks for your help,
Ram Rachum.

Pressing Enter should allow you to type within the created cell. On the status bar you should see Mode: Edit or Mode: Command. To switch between the modes use Enter/Esc. Does it help, or did I misunderstand your question?

cells

Yes, that’s exactly what I meant! Thank you so much.
