How do I get past this and get jupyter lab to run?

It appears that someone else is experiencing this very recently as per report on: conda - JupyterLab Packaging (jlpm) Segmentation Fault - Stack Overflow and they are also using MacBook. Did you install jupyter from conda-forge, or in a different way? If so would you be happy to provide a full conda list?jupyter lab --debug and list all output prior to the crash (if any)?

i don’t use macos nor conda, but as far as i understand the problem, you can only hope this gets fixed in conda forge dependencies.
in the meantime an alternative would be to try to install jupyterlab via pip install jupyterlab
You can recover a working environment with last jupyterlab version by pinning libffi to 3.3.
micromamba create -f https://prefix.dev/envs/marcbernot/mojave/conda-lock.yml -n mojaveconda create -n testmojave python=3.9 libffi=3.3 notebook jupyterlab.here .

ISSUE segmentation fault
SYSTEM Mac Mojave 10.14
Conclude some version does not support Mojave 10.14; I cannot upgrade above 10.14
