Server unavailable or unreachable error in JupyterLab

We have a JupyterHub Cluster at work which uses Slurm to spawn JupyterLab sessions. Users are encountering the Server unavailable or unreachable message. I understand this message to be generated by events that occur between a browser on the JupyterHub server, usually a network connectivity issue such as a VPN disconnecting.

The user has been instructed to refresh the web page as a way to refresh the connectivity and move passed the message. Some users rarely see this message, some users see it more often.

Are there any settings that can be used to have the browser itself ‘reconnect’ and prevent the massage from displaying?
