Re: Open-Source Science (OSSci) meetup, Feb 16 at UCSC (+ remote)

Hi,

Please meet Open-Source Science (OSSci), a new top-level NumFOCUS initiative (in partnership with IBM), prioritizing open-source software development to accelerate scientific discovery.

OSSci was officially announced at SciPy last July, and our initial working groups are now getting under way. They cover both verticals (chemistry/materials, life sciences, climate/sustainability) and cross-cutting topics (reproducibility, mapping OSS across the scientific sector).

We are hosting our first meetup this Thursday, February 16, 5–7.30pm Pacific at UC Santa Cruz (+ remote via Zoom):

OSSci Meetup: Increasing Research Impact Through Open Source and Open Data
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ossci-meetup-increasing-research-impact-through-open-source-and-open-data-tickets-515172082567

The event will be recorded. We’ll publish the video along with summary, key insights, etc. on our Medium soon afterwards: https://opensource.science

We are actively looking for collaborators and partners and are eager to connect with our neighbors in the ecosystem. If you can think of people or organizations we should talk to (in the Jupyter community or beyond), please point them our way or feel free to make an introduction.

Thanks,
Tim
