Kernel Error—unable to use R kernel in Jupyter Notebook

Any help appreciated. When running Jupyter notebook on my Mac (OS Catalina), my notebook fails to run in an R environment. When trying to run R, I am shown a kernel error with the message:

Also, I am unable to open Jupyter notebook through Anaconda, I instead have been using my Mac terminal.
