Running JupyterLab in Safari, the Reference displayed as a tab – two issues that reduce its usefulness:
– search won’t even let me enter a search term
– videos do not run and are black
Now, maybe with more experience I won’t even both with these features, but they sure are broken. Any ideas on causes?
I see what you mean.
Some suggestions:
Something to try for in regards to the second issue about the videos:
For examining the JupyterLab Reference Documentation that opens on the right side of JupyterLab when you click the ‘launch binder
’ badge here (or that you can toggle from under ‘Help’, you want to right-click and open the videos in a new tab or Window. That works well with current Safari on my Mac. (By the way, ’ The JupyterLab Interface’ page features a lot of the videos if you want to quickly access a test-rich area of the reference material.)
Interestingly, you don’t have that option in Chrome on a Mac when you right-click (or shift-right-click) and so you’d be worse off there. However, a more general option exists, see below.
(I think the issue with accessing the page’s documentation search interface is caused by the way the JupyterLab window or frame is embedded in there so that either the clicking in the search area gets ‘swallowed’ or the modals cannot open. I don’t know if such ‘nesting’ can eventually be overcome by the developers. So for now…)
Option for work-around to solve both issues:
If you need those options, a suggestion is to first under the ‘Help’ menu is to click on the ''Launch Jupyter Notebook File Browser " and then from under the ‘Help’ menu that will come up on that page, select ‘JupyterLab Reference’ and you’ll get a fully functioning page in your browser. You can then toggle back over to the JupyterLab interface tab.
It’s not as ideal as having the pane right along-side things in your JupyterLab, yet it restores the functionality of the things you have an issue with presently. And you may be able to rely on the windowing abilities of your machine or the abilities to move things around on your monitor to get something close to what you like in a more side-by-side manner.
