Running Jupyterlab 4.4.10 via miniconda
After more than a little digging I realise that to save the current notebook as a PY file I need to take the menu “File → Save and Export Notebook As”
and then choose “Executable Script”
That then saves the notebook as a PY file.
TBH that is not very obvious.
The documentation page is pretty good in fact - including the file extension against each of the menu options.
Suggestion: include those file extensions explicitly in the Options text of JupyterLab
