How are you preventing bots spam on this Discourse Forum?

Hi there,

We are currently having a spam problem on Dask Discourse (see Switch to GitHub or Google only for new user registration - Meta - Dask Forum). We try to set-up only Github and Google oauth, but Google enabled new spam to come in.

Did you encounter such problem, and set a specific setting on your Discourse instance?

How big is your spam problem? I’ve checked our Discourse audit logs, and 20 users were deleted in the past 30 days due to being spammers.

@consideRatio Can you see the list of enabled plugins and authentication methods? I don’t think moderators have access to that.

Speaking of spam, we have a problem on gitter/Element channels. @manics can you ban the spammers on jupyterhub/jupyterhub channel?

Done! Thanks for pointing it out, I don’t use Matrix/Gitter that much.

Typically, I had to manually delete about 20 new users and associated topics with 5 or 6 messages each this morning. And it occured also previously 2 or 3 times.

Authentication methods are google and github besides email stuff:

I scanned the list of plugins installed and enabled, and I think only Akismet is the one of relevance related to spam.

Thanks @consideRatio! I’ll have a look at this plugin!

How these tools detect bots or spammers?
