Can I make permalinks to projects in Jupyter Lab?

I’d like to be able to bookmark my projects in Jupyterlab. Is it possible to create a URL or permalink to them, provided I don’t move the project?

Which version of JupyterLab are you using? In current versions, open notebooks have a stable URL (much like they used to in the Classic notebook). You can bookmark those, something like http://localhost:8888/lab/tree/teach/100/d100_gentemann/testing_old.ipynb, which will open correctly even if that notebook wasn’t already alive, as long as there’s a server on that port which can reach that file path…

Is that what you had in mind?

Yes, that is the idea. I don’t think I know how to check the version either.

If you are using a fairly recent one, select from the ‘File’ menu toolbar > ‘Help’ > ‘About JupyterLab’. The dialog box that comes up will feature the version below the JupyterLab logo, such as ‘Version 3.1.11’.

It looks like I am running JupyterLab 0.35.6

0.35.6 was released 2.5 years ago as the last release before 1.0. I’d highly recommend updating to 3.0 or later and enjoying all the many new features including the urls that reflect the open document. Enjoy!
