Binder workshop Sun. July 21, 9 am to 1 pm Swiss time: ~50 users

We are holding a binder workshop on Sun. from 9 am to 1 pm Swiss time with about 50 users: https://github.com/ISMB-ECCB-2019-Tutorial-AM4/reproducible-computational-workflows. Binder folks, is there anything you need to do about to support that capacity?

Thanks so much for all your help!

50 people shouldn’t be a problem and Sunday’s tend to be quiet days in mybinder.org land.

The advice from MP Workshop on MyBinder applies as well.

@betatim what do you think about creating a section in the docs called “what to consider if I want to run mybinder.org for a workshop” and then we link to the thread in discourse? Or copy paste the text?

Or maybe a blog post - documentation double whammy?

The real short summary is:

  • use a tag to avoid rebuilds
  • have a backup plan
  • smaller images mean faster launches
  • workshops wit h50 participants are common, 100 is the limit
  • no we won’t do anything special for your workshop

so maybe we can even tweet it

btw @pwrose how did this go?!?!

Binder handled the 45 participants at our workshop without a problem. It was somewhat slow since everyone was creating new builds, but that was expected.
