When running JupyterLab 4.0.4 single-user server through JupyterHub 4.0.3, running kernels (either started by opening a notebook or by launching a terminal) are not listed in the “Kernels” left side panel, so it’s impossible to manage them (especially shutting them down if needed).
Is anybody else experiencing similar issues?
Is there a way to fix that or a related Github issue?

There were changes to the kernels panel so it might be a regression. Please report this as a bug: Issues · jupyterlab/jupyterlab · GitHub

Hi, I am also experiencing the same behaviour running the plain JupyterLab server. JupyterLab 4.0.4, jupyterlab_server-2.24.0. Have you filed a bug on this?
Yes, Running kernels not listed in the "Kernels" panel · Issue #14962 · jupyterlab/jupyterlab · GitHub

Maybe I found the cause, but not the solution: it happens for sure when you have kernels without a provided icon installed.
I’ll continue to make test anyway and I’ll comment here and on Github
