With the release of JupyterLab 3.0, there is renewed discussion on making it the default interface on Zero to JupyterHub. Admins will be able to trivially change it back to classic notebook if they wish. Users will continue to be able to switch back and forth between classic notebook & lab - all that will be unaffected. This will only affect the default interface. We wanted to do a quick check with the community before making the decision.
Should Zero to JupyterHub switch to JupyterLab as default interface?

I think so! JupyterLab makes it easier to navigate between docs, also the wealth of extensions available for JupyterLab is great. In particular the JupyterLab Git extension is great for teaching!

Thanks to everyone for voting. I’ve summarized next steps here: https://github.com/jupyterhub/zero-to-jupyterhub-k8s/issues/776, Short version is:
- Make sure there’s lots of documentation on switching the default back, and explain that we aren’t forcing lab on people - just changing the default
- Make the switch.
