Installation best practices with changes in technology

Hi folks

On a yearly basis I set up a fresh JupyterHub+JupyterLab environment for use in my workplace. In previous years I’ve used what I’ve seen referred to as “the hard way”, however when looking into the documentation, I see no reference to this other than documentation for outdated versions[1].

Is this a deliberate move away from how things were done before, and if so, is the general recommendation to no longer use the manual install method?

I’ve had look around to try and find discussions around ideology, however my searches haven’t returned much.

Thanks!

[1] Install JupyterHub and JupyterLab from the ground up — JupyterHub 1.2.0 documentation

It was moved to a separate repository because it was difficult to keep it in sync with everything else:

We have a couple of recommended ways to install JupyterHub but since it’s so configurable no single guide will ever be comprehensive enough. As long as you’re using up to date components and read the changelog, especially for major upgrades, I think you can keep doing whatever you’re doing :grinning:.

Great, thanks very much for that!

I was planning over next year’s setup a little worried about implementing something not recommended/considered hard/problematic to support.

Much appreciated. (:
