Git extension for jupyterlab 3

Hi, i’m trying to update the jupyterlab-git package to work with jupyterlab 3. I’ve tried following the migration instructions in readthedocs (Extension Migration Guide — JupyterLab 3.0.1 documentation), but no luck. Wondering if anyone has attempted this or if there’s additional work that would need to be done beyond what’s in the migration instructions?

It took awhile to get done as the extension depends on another extension (nbdime) that had to be updated first.
