Since this is very mysterious, you might try upgrading to [z2jh 2.0](https://discourse.jupyter.org/t/ann-jupyterhub-helm-chart-2-0-0-with-jupyterhub-3-0-0/15705) if that’s an option. It’s possible this is related to an issue that has been fixed, as jupyterhub 1.5 is from quite a while ago.
