What flavor of Markdown is used by JupyterLab?

With the default renderer, JupyterLab uses the [GFM](https://github.github.com/gfm/) mode of [`marked`](https://marked.js.org/) with several extensions:

- `$` and `$$` wrap [MathJax](https://www.mathjax.org/), and have further, independent configuration
- as of JupyterLab 4.1, [mermaidjs](https://mermaid.js.org/) diagrams may be created with fenced code blocks, e.g.

````md
```mermaid

````
Aside from the LaTeX settings, there aren’t a lot of configuration points. However, one _can_ choose to install an extension which will replace `marked`.
The python side output of `nbconvert` (from the _Download as…_ menu) uses [mistune](https://mistune.lepture.com/) and _may_ use pandoc as an intermediate, depending on the output format.
Thanks. I had no idea that Mermaid was there just waiting to
be invoked.
