hi everyone,
I want to individualise the Launcher in my JupyterHub and add some welcoming text and helpful links to our knowledge base to it:

 ![Screenshot 2024-10-09 at 16.48.49](https://canada1.discourse-cdn.com/flex031/uploads/jupyter/original/2X/9/99fc6b5b44cfcd1b8402a384874c5465e1717a30.png)

What is the best way to do it or is that not possible?

You ll have more luck in posting it in [JupyterLab](https://discourse.jupyter.org/c/jupyterlab/17) category.

AFAIK there is no easy way to configure the launcher. You ll need to make a custom launcher and use it in the environment. [Here](https://gitlab.com/idris-cnrs/jupyter/jupyterlab/jupyterlab-apps-launcher) is an example.

Some options:

- [GitHub - jupyterlab-contrib/jupyterlab-tour: A JupyterLab UI tour built on jupyterlab-tutorial and react-joyride.](https://github.com/jupyterlab-contrib/jupyterlab-tour)
- [GitHub - trungleduc/jupyter\_app\_launcher: A JupyterLab extension to create custom launcher entries.](https://github.com/trungleduc/jupyter_app_launcher)
- If I go [here](https://gist.github.com/jtpio/f3f7aed7c87bb15e07009bb29a601ed8) and launch via MyBinder, when the session comes up there is a notification pup-up in the bottom right corner.
When I inspect that notification in the bottom, I see ‘jp-toast-message’ and searching that with ‘Jupyter jp-toast-message’ in a search engine, I see under [JupyterLab 4.1 changelog](https://jupyterlab.readthedocs.io/en/latest/getting_started/changelog.html#id93) a note about ’ toast notification’ that leads [this related issue about Toast Notifications](https://github.com/jupyterlab/jupyterlab/pull/15421) from about 11 months ago. Notifications are documented here:

- [Announcements — JupyterLab 4.2.5 documentation](https://jupyterlab.readthedocs.io/en/stable/user/announcements.html) - see “Jupyter news” section describing how you can provide your own XML Atom feed to provide custom notifications
- [User Interface Helpers — JupyterLab 4.3.0b3 documentation](https://jupyterlab.readthedocs.io/en/latest/extension/ui_helpers.html#notifications) - this is if you want to use them in an extension rather than as an admin (but admins can create extension too!)
